What did you do this summer?
Besides moving and settling into our new home/studio, I did something I never expected ... I created a website using CSS. Now don't get me wrong, I have designed and created lots of websites using basic HTML and WISIWYG programs. But this was different!
A client and friend asked me to redesign his website for him. But then when it wasn't getting built the way it was suppose to ... I got asked to do it. Yes I am patting myself on my back, because I built this site using DreamWeaver and CSS in just two weeks! And I got him set up with Constant Contact and designed a newsletter as well! And it looks great, if I do say so myself!
For those of us not super familiar with the code world ... figuring out how to make things work just using code is soooo exciting!! When I finally figured out to wrap text around an image - well my day was made!!
I am excited to do more with CSS ... so if you are in need of a website make-over ... give me a call ... I'm raring to go!

Change of address ... time for a make-over
So you've decided to move your office, studio or even your home. There are so many things to think about and consider while preparing for this move. Don't let your address labels be one of those things you leave till the last minute.
This is the perfect opportunity to have some fun and be creative with your new move! I'm not talking about a redesign, just a little brightening and freshening ...
With my impending move, I decided to change a few things with my business card and ... address labels of course. I haven't changed anything about the logo ... well perhaps a little. But I have spruced it up and given it a new feel. I am very happy with results, but of course I am now thinking of my letterhead, package labels etc etc.
If you're interested in getting some fresh ideas for business cards or address labels ... feel free to give us a call anytime. We would be happy to chat with you!

We're Moving
There comes a time when everyone moves ... and our time is coming up soon. After living outside of Victoria for the last 5 years, my family and my business are relocating into town. We are all quite thrilled about the move. But especially my husband, as his work will be only 10 minutes away. I am thrilled because I will get a new studio! Setting up, decorating and reoganizing are the fun part! It will give me a chance to literally clean house! However, because of this, Decodent Dezigns will be closed for 2 weeks June 24th thru till July 9th. I have some ideas for a new look and direction I want to take Deco Dezigns. So keep you eyes open in July for new things coming down the pipe!
In the mean time ... its packing packing packing!!

What's Your Story or Adventure?
Petra, Pordan
I am currently working on another photo memory book. This one is quite exciting as it is a trip to the Middle East. Never having been myself I am simply in awe of this persons travels, adventures and the wonderful photos they have taken. It has awoken the travel bug in me ....
Creating a coffee table memory book (in my opinion) is far superior to photo albums. They add that special something that albums just can't do. Perhaps it is that they are printed, or that they can be shared among friends and family, or perhaps it is the story, in words or images that we can be enjoyed again and again! Whatever it is, memory books are wonderful keepsakes for any story, adventure or event ...

Art Deco logo + more ...
VSP Design Inc.
What happened to April? At any rate, back in March I designed another Art Deco ID package for my lovely friend Vyna in New York. This was an interesting challenge as her company is her name and yet it is so much more than that! Her love of Art Deco made creating her logo so much fun!! ... but as we soon found out, sometimes what we like about a design doesn't necessarily translate into a logo or business card. So back to the drawing board! Luckily the world of art deco is full of many wonderful design elements that I was able to create the perfect look for her new ID package!

Carrying the Olympic Torch
I am trying to keep this blog work related, but I just have to include this. Last Friday February 5th, I went to Vancouver with my daughter and mum to cheer on my brother as he carried the Olympic Torch in Squamish BC for the 2010 Winter Games! It was really something amazing to see and be a part of! How to describe the feelings ... proud, honoured, touched ... it truly was wonderful to be a part of something very special!

Art Deco "Save the Date" Magnets
I know I'm on the right path when after deciding to offer Save the Date Art Deco Magnets, I read in a Wedding Blog ... that magnets are "the thing" to do this year!
So ... why not add magnets to your Save the Date and Invitation order? It is a great way to remind your guests about your up and coming event! Send them on their own, or with a card. Your guests are sure to appreciate and love the added touch! And the best part is that the art deco designs on all pieces will be complimentary to each other, setting the tone for your special event!!

Self Sealing Art Deco Invitations
Accordion 4 panel - folded in from either end
Back in October I got a request to make a self-sealing invitation. After a couple of tries [and a conference with the printer] I was able to turn my Accordion style invitation with the tear away RSVP panel into just that. The idea was to fold the outside panels in on themselves and then in again, then sealing the final edge with a clear sticker. We were even able to print the return address on the back of one of the panels, allowing the other side to be free for the guests address and stamp.
This is a great way to keep everything simple and in one place! The Accordion Invitation has enough space for your... invitation wording, details about the wedding/reception, map and even food choices on the Reply Card panel.
I have used this style for many custom invitations as well as for my own wedding invitation. The responses has always been positive and people seem to really like the uniqueness of it! The tear away RSVP is a great hit too!

Art Deco Gift Certificates
I recently designed some Art Deco Gift Certificates for a client. As the story goes ... awhile back this particular client had put a deposit down on some invitations. Unfortunately the event didn't happen. So after some time, she asked if she could put the deposit towards something else ... of course. It turns out she owns a clothing store in Orange California [Artragous Clothing]. So when she asked me to create some Gift Certificates for her using one of my art deco invitation designs, I was delighted!
We used the colours from her logo for the border and even incorporated her logo into the design. It all came together so nicely and I think they are quite something!
Art deco designs and elements can be used on all sorts of things. And because of my graphic design background, if you can imagine it ... I can create it for you!

3 + 4 Panel Invitations
After much deliberation, I have decided to offer the 3 Panel and Accordion invitation styles again. These have been so popular in the past and people just seem to love them. The borders and graphics are designed to flow from one panel into the next, leading your guest through the invitation and setting the stage for your event!
The Accordion and the regular 3 Panel invitations both come with a tear away RSVP panel - turning the reply card into a postcard! This makes replying for your guests easy as pie! Your return address is already printed on the back of the card, so all you have to do is put the stamp on, and your guests do the rest!
The Accordion invitation is small [4x5 when folded up] but looks wonderful sitting on a mantel unfolded. With the extra panel there is lots of room for things like a map or directions.
The Soft Fold Invitation is a lovely style to use if you require lots of room for additional information [accomodation, directions etc], or a map or two! This style has often been used for Gala Events because of all the space available.
Give us a call if you are interested in either of these styles for your special event!

Art Deco logo
Welcome to Deco Dezigns new "Blog"!
I am excited to be sharing the latest art deco and other news with you!
Last month I took on a project to design an art deco logo [and business cards] for a New York company "Deco Prive" using a hood ornament from the 1920's ... "Victoire" by Lalique. It was quite the task, but it turned out beautifully! ... the logo and heads were printed in gold metallic ink on black Duplex Classic Linen card stock ... so elegant!
